Osmani: We have fulfilled the conditions to acquire the status of a candidate

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that the state has fulfilled all the conditions to gain the status of a candidate country of the European Union. She made this statement during the first meeting with the new head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Aivo Orav.

Kosovo has applied for EU membership at the end of 2022 and is the only country in the Western Balkans region that does not have the status of a candidate country. In the last Progress Report of the European Commission, it was said that Kosovo has made "limited progress" in meeting the standards necessary to join the EU. In the meeting between Osmani and Oravi, the latest developments were discussed, including security ones, announced the Presidency of Kosovo.

Finally, the Government of Kosovo has faced criticism from the international community after some actions in the north of Kosovo, inhabited by a majority of Serbs. On August 30, the Kosovo Police closed five Serbian parallel institutions, which are considered illegal in Kosovo.

This action was severely criticized by the United States, the European Union, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, who described it as a unilateral and uncoordinated action. The EU said that this action "endangers the fragile security situation on the ground".
