KFOR leaves, normalcy returns to the border crossing in Jarinje

KFOR forces have withdrawn from the border crossing in Jarinje. They have been on the border between Kosovo and Serbia for two weeks as a result of the tensions that arose between the two countries over the issue of reciprocity with license plates.

The situation was tense in Jarinje and Brnjak as Kosovo decided to seek temporary license plates for vehicles with Serbian license plates entering the border. Serbia has been following the same practice for 10 years for Kosovo. The decision was not well received by Serbia, and some groups blocked the road near the border.

An agreement was signed in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia in Brussels, which provided for the deployment of KFOR troops in points 1 and 31 for two weeks. The departure of these forces would take place today, October 17, when local elections are held in Kosovo.
