Greek politician dies of cancer
The leader of the center-left in Greece, the Movement for Change, Fofi Gennimata, has died of cancer at the age of 56.
According to Greek media, the mother of three was first diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 43 in 2008.
"She died after a long one-year battle and despite the efforts of her doctors present, " the hospital administration said in a written statement, expressing its condolences to her family.
Gennimata was elected leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) in 2015, which later became part of the center-left umbrella group Movement for Change.
Today has been declared a day of mourning throughout Greece.
