France opposes Kosovo's membership in EC: Unilateral moves lead to rising

The French Ambassador to Serbia, Pierre Cochard, has said that Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe is a unilateral decision, which France does not support.

According to him, the priority in this case should be the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue mediated by the European Union, and that the talks should be given a new dynamic.

"The candidacy for the Council of Europe is a unilateral decision and we do not support those decisions and consider dialogue a priority. The issue of missing persons is also a priority topic. This is a priority for us. We understand Kosovo's aspirations to join the European institutions and welcome the fact that they are aligned with European positions on Ukraine. "However, unilateral movements do not make things easier and can lead to increased tensions," he said.

Kosovo officially submitted its application for membership in the Council of Europe on 12 May.
