Bulgaria conditions Northern Macedonia for lifting veto: Change Constitution

The Bulgarian National Assembly has approved the proposal of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU to start negotiations for Northern Macedonia's EU membership. This was done through a draft decision submitted by the co-chair of "Democratic Bulgaria" Hristo Ivanov, which states that Bulgaria will support every step of the European integration process of the Republic of Northern Macedonia in specifying the negotiating framework and the Council conclusions to ensure the inclusion of Bulgarians in the Macedonian constitution 'where other peoples are mentioned and on an equal footing with these peoples'.
After more than four hours of debate, the draft decision was approved with 170 votes in favor, 37 'against' and 21 abstentions.
