Veliaj honors with the medal "Gratitude of the City" the Albanian Red

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj honored with the medal "Gratitude of the City" the Albanian Red Cross on the 100th anniversary of its founding. During the special ceremony, held in the Municipality of Tirana, Veliaj expressed the highest appreciation for the largest network of volunteers in Albania, as a model of solidarity and humanity.

The Mayor said that he is grateful for the contribution of this movement, especially after the two difficult moments that our country went through with the earthquake and the pandemic.

The end of the year is a moment to say, - "Are we grateful for the people or organizations of our city?" - Especially in difficult times, where we saw how fragile we are to the earthquake or pandemic, but also how strong we are and how quickly we recover if we, Albanians, become together, especially when there are movements that inspire and motivate us. Therefore, I would like this end of the year to be another moment for this kind of reflection, not only how many difficult things we went through, but also how much we know each other and what inner strength we had as Albanians and what were those energies inside our kind, which made us rebuild beyond adversity. "I am very happy today that the Albanian Red Cross, in the year of the 100th anniversary as a movement, receives the Gratitude of our City," he said.

Veliaj added that next year will be ideal to increase the ranks of the Red Cross, also as a step towards removing young people from inactivity.

"While Tirana next year will be the European Capital of Youth, we have a fantastic opportunity for recruitment for the Red Cross in every gymnasium and in every faculty. The Red Cross offers an excellent opportunity to be useful, to be part of a network, to feel part of a mission, so I look forward to 2022, the year that Tirana wants new hosts from all of Europe, the Red Cross to be at the forefront. We will have about 1000 events where we will need the energetic, useful, smart, wise, knowledgeable volunteer of the Red Cross, "declared Veliaj.

100 years ago, with the initiative of prominent intellectuals of the time, such as Ndre Mjeda, Luigj Gurakuqi, Gjergj Fishta, Rauf Fico, Sejfi Vllamasi, Ali Këlcyra, Kristo Dako, etc., the Albanian Red Cross was founded in Tirana. Today, the ANC is a member of the largest humanitarian movement in the world, numbering 192 Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, with over 17 million volunteers who give their humanitarian contribution to help the most needy people in situations of armed conflict. , or in everyday life.
