The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, during the presentation of the 5-year achievements, as well as the city's strategic cleaning plan, expressed his gratitude to the entire cleaning team of Tirana who contribute every day to make the capital cleaner. He also spoke about the Sharra landfill, which he said used to be a degraded space, resembling an inn without gates, while now it has been transformed into a green space.
"Some of you who have lived in Tirana, remember what the Sharra landfill was like: a shattered space, like an inn without doors, a place where - just look at the photos - anyone could enter, from all directions. Everyone had their own account, everyone had their own bag, everyone had their own mini-business. Who has a house in Kombinat, but especially who has a house in the area of Astir and around that suburb of Tirana, from Selita to Sharre, then to Vaqarr, to Lalm, remembers that misty yellow cloud that hung around Tirana, which started from Sharra and then, depending on the wind, went and poisoned the whole of Tirana. Today we have forgotten that cancerous cloud, because of which you could not see the blue sky in Tirana. Today you can see the blue sky and we can say with full mouth that in Sharre that polluting, burning system, poisonous and carcinogenic to the city, it is a tale from the past. Starting from Sharra and everywhere else, Tirana is several times cleaner", said the mayor.
Veliaj underlined that Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta owned Tirana and left it drowning in debt. "If a project has a problem, then we have to deal with the problem, not cancel the whole project. The word comes: If an employee here makes a mistake, uses violence, then we must deal with that person who made this mistake. We cannot say that all Eco Tirana will be closed because one of the drivers had consumed alcohol. You deal with that problem, you don't melt down the whole company. The same applies to the Sharra landfill. Whoever made mistakes, let them bear responsibility, but it does not mean that we will stop cleaning Tirana, collecting Tirana's trash and we will stop our project for a lighter Tirana, because someone made a mistake. Whoever made a mistake should be held responsible, but Tirana will be cleaned and the garbage will be deposited. When I came to the Municipality of Tirana, in addition to finding the bill 60% with debts, I also found a proposal of those who today oppose the Municipality of Tirana and say: 'Give us another chance'. We gave Iliri and Saliu a chance, from 2011 to 2015. In addition to leaving us the bill with 60% debt, they also left us a proposal that the garbage in Sharre be managed at 37 euros per ton.
