109th anniversary of the Police, Veliaj: Tirana today one of the safest cities

On the 109th anniversary of the State Police, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, together with other leaders of the local government, congratulated the blue uniforms in a ceremony held by the Local Police Directorate of Tirana. In his speech, Veliaj emphasized the deep gratitude to every police officer who sacrifices for the order and peace of the citizens of Tirana, but also all of Albania.

"Thank you very much for the dignified service you provide to our city and country. On behalf of all the citizens of Tirana, I wish you a happy holiday! We are extremely proud of each of you, of the sacrifice you make, not only at work, but to your families where you are absent, I am sure, for long hours. The fact that this city today is considered by Eurostat as one of the safest cities in Europe is the merit of the State Police, boys and girls who serve in uniform and make this city safer every day. Therefore, I want this city, on this day, to remember the fallen cops, to remember those who sacrifice every day, those who leave families for days, those who serve for New Year's day, for holidays, for weekends where most people rest, it is a sacrifice that the city should know and should show gratitude, "said Veliaj.

Veliaj also brought to attention the fact that this year Tirana is the European Capital of Youth. "We have a tremendous chance this year. 2022 is the year when we are the European Capital of Youth and some of the myths and legends that are said about Albania as a problematic country we have the opportunity to dispel. Endless delegations, mayors, prime ministers, presidents, many high authorities of Europe, but also tourists will come to see with their own eyes that this is a safe place, as the State Police is one of the most professional in the region, Said Veliaj.

The Mayor of Tirana also praised the fact that today's police has been cleared of elements such as those seen in scenes of violence at the PD headquarters a few days ago.

"The State Police has also had an extraordinary ability in recent years, the ability to self-correct. When I saw that scene on "Rruga e Elbasanit", with former state police and former municipal police of a previous regime, I said this was the right decision. We have removed from our ranks people of hurry and rope. Former state police were fighting with each other with former municipal police, divided into two camps of the same party, the professional state police had to separate the parties, stop those who were breaking each other's skulls, He said.

Veliaj closed his speech by saying that in proportion to the growth of Tirana, the needs for police officers in the capital are increasing.
