Scholz in Skopje: I will work for the region's accession to the European

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid a two-day official visit to Skopje on Saturday as part of his first official visit to northern Macedonia. In the face-to-face meeting between Kovacevski and Scholz, the most important issues for the relations between the two countries were discussed, as well as issues of common interest, related to the enlargement of the European Union, regional cooperation and the current situation with the war in Ukraine.

Germany main supporter of integration

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, has said that Germany continues to be one of the main supporters in the country's European integration process, including the Berlin Process, as a mechanism for the implementation of EU recommendations. "At the EU summit in June, chaired by France, a clear message is expected in Brussels and opens the way for the unblocking of the enlargement process with the start of talks for the Republic of Northern Macedonia, as a country that has met the criteria and "conditions and as a strategic decision for security in Europe", said Kovacevski.

Scholz: The EU has made a promise

The German Chancellor stressed in Skopje that the Western Balkans is seen by Germany as of strategic importance.

"I will be committed to the region's accession to the European Union. Germany is very serious about the European integration process of the countries in the region, and this is especially true for Northern Macedonia. "The EU has given a promise to RMV, while Northern Macedonia has met all the preconditions for the start of negotiations," Olaf Scholz said in Skopje.

He expressed admiration for the political force that was shown by politics and that enabled the agreement to be reached with Greece. The rest of the task must also be completed successfully, because the Government and the citizens have worked for it, Scholz said.
