Police control in the offices of the European Parliament! It is suspected that the Kremlin has paid MPs to spread propaganda
The police of Brussels and France carried out a strict control in the offices of the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg, as well as in the house of a parliamentary employee in Schaerbeek, Belgium.
The raid on the offices of the European Parliament took place this Wednesday morning.
The searches are part of a wider investigation into Russian influence in the European Parliament elections, where it is suspected that the Kremlin paid MEPs to spread pro-Russian propaganda from the heart of EU institutions.
The Belgian prosecutor, who ordered the raids, said the suspected parliamentary worker had an important role in the Russian propaganda operation, confirming that the raid is related to a case involving "interference, passive corruption and criminal organization participation."
The developments of the investigation show that the Voice of Europe news agency, which was sanctioned by the EU for spreading Kremlin propaganda, had an impact on the spread of Russian influence.
MPs Anders Vistisen and Maximilian Krah, who gave interviews to Voice of Europe, denied having benefited financially from these interviews. Vistisen said that the interview was part of his work as a politician, while Krah stated that there is no specific charge of payment against him.
