Former Albanian presidents support Thaçi in The Hague

The former presidents of Albania, Alfred Moisiu, Rexhep Meidani and Bamir Topi, as well as the former Albanian prime minister, Pandeli Majko, accompanied by the former president of Kosovo, Behgjet Pacolli, today visited The Hague.

They met Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi in the detention center in The Hague. After the meeting, Alfred Moisiu, Rexhep Meidani and Bamir Topi, as well as the former Albanian Prime Minister Pandeli Majko said that the former leaders of the KLA are staying morally strong and proud of the KLA's just fight.

"We came to meet them, to encourage our friends and comrades who are being unjustly imprisoned. The struggle of the Kosovo Albanians has been a struggle for freedom, independence, justice and to break away from centuries-old Serbian slavery," said Moisiu.

"Of course we do not interfere in matters of justice, but we are convinced that justice will be served in the country, because it seems like it was the history of the last century, but the history of what happened in Kosovo is a history of modern times, not we forget that mass departure, that genocide that was carried out by the architect of the war in the Balkans, Milosevic", said Topi.

"We think that this is not a personal drama of those who are in the cells of this prison, we think that this is a national drama and as such we have our presence here", said Majko.

The visit of the former presidents took place on the initiative of the head of the New Kosovo Alliance and the former president, Behgjet Pacolli. While the former heads of state of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu and Atifete Jahjaga, have not responded to his call.

"Once again I was convinced that this is the price they are paying for our existence as an independent state and our independence. There are no personal accusations against anyone. These are absurd accusations. I saw that they are encouraged, they are not tired, they are better than ever and they know that they are not in this prison for a crime but they are to pay the price for what Kosovo possesses, freedom and independence", said Pacolli .

The former leaders of the KLA have been in custody for almost two years on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the war in Kosovo, but their trial has not yet begun.
