The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, after today's meeting, stated that the Democratic Party is endangering the registration in the May 14 elections.
Celibashi told the media that the CEC has two requests for the members of KZAZ for the Democratic Party, and will decide in accordance with what the law provides.
He called for political and institutional factors to work without wasting time to resolve this impasse.
"We do not decide who leads the DP, or who will lead it. For us there is a DP, it is a legal entity. It remains to be seen who has the right to act on behalf of DP. It would be nice if this issue was resolved. There is talk of a main opposition party and I think that it is not too late for everyone who can contribute to the solution of this situation in one way or another. You will have to commit to finding a solution, we cannot act as if nothing is happening, as the main opposition party may not be registered," said Celibashi.
Celibash's full speech:
Formally, we have two requests and the commissioner will have to evaluate the legitimacy. We are in the process of verifying the documentation on the proposals for members of the CEAZs, not only of the DP, but also of the other three parties. It is a procedure that the CEC has usually done. We will decide on that, it is not too much of a stretch to say that I will decide. I am really sorry that we find ourselves in this situation, not for the CEC. We have no political interest and no political sympathy not only for this issue, but for the whole process. Decision making will be in full respect of the law. It would be naive if someone thought that this decision-making is based on someone else's orders. I say with conviction that we have no shyness to decide in full compliance with the law. It is not my business how the law is or how the political situation is. There are others who should think about this and not the CEC. The request both for the case of commissioners and for the registration of electoral subjects will be evaluated in accordance with the law. We do not decide who leads the DP, or who will lead it. For us there is a DP, it is a legal entity. It remains to be seen who has the right to act on behalf of DP. It would be nice if this issue was resolved. There is talk of a main opposition party and I think that it is not too late for everyone who can contribute to the solution of this situation in one way or another. You will have to commit to finding a solution, we cannot pretend that nothing is happening, as the main opposition party may not register. Anyway,
