Switzerland is covered with snow in August, temperatures drop by 30 degrees

After the high temperatures, the country has been hit by heavy rains and snowfalls in some areas.

MeteoSuiss reports that temperatures have dropped by 30 degrees Celsius in four days, causing days of hot sun to be replaced by snowfall.

"The temperature dropped impressively within four days. On Thursday, the station's thermometer read 31.2 °C. Today at 11:15 it was 0.5 °C,” the weather service MétéoSuisse reported on platform X.

The snowfall included the tourist area of Zermatt, which is located at an altitude of 1,638 meters above sea level.

Switzerland and its ecosystem are particularly affected by climate change. The situation in the glaciers is described as dramatic: between 2021-2022 they lost 6% of their volume.
