The country that ranks first in the world for alcohol consumption

A recent study has shown that Australians are the largest consumers of alcohol in the world. The study shows that Australians drank more than twice a month (about 27 times a year) and the global average was about 14 times. Denmark and Finland rank second and third, respectively, with respondents claiming to be drunk almost twice a month.

The chief executive of the Alcohol Research and Education Foundation, Caterina Giorgi, said the statistics were "worrying".

"Australia leads the world in both the number of people reporting intoxication and seeking emergency medical treatment for alcohol… Both of these indicators suggest that people are drinking at extremely dangerous levels," she told The Guardian.

The US was ranked 4th, while the UK was ranked 5th.
