Sold by family to a 55-year-old rescued Parvana, 9-year-old from Afghanistan

A charity has managed to save 9-year-old Parvana who was sold by her parents to a 55-year-old due to economic hardship.

"I'm really happy," Parvana said during the trip. "(Charity) saved me from my Elder husband."

Last month, CNN reported that Parvana and several other underage girls were being sold by their fathers so other members of their families could be fed.

At the time, Parvana's father, Abdul Malik, said she cried day and night, begging him not to sell her, saying she wanted to go to school and study instead of getting married.

Following an international protest as a result of CNN reports, Parwana returned to her family due to the community's opposing reactions against the buyer.

The US-based non-profit organization Too Young to Wed (TYTË) was also involved in relocating their daughters, siblings and mothers to a safe home.

"This is a temporary solution," said Stephanie Sinclair, YOUR founder. "(But) actually what we're trying to do is prevent the sale of girls for marriage."
