Tourists who will collect garbage in Copenhagen will be rewarded

Tourists will be rewarded with free food and participation in activities if they become environmentally friendly. The decision was made by the artistic board of the city.

This test starts on July 15th.

According to the initiative, tourists can ask for free lunches, coffee, glasses of wine in exchange for their work.

The 'CopenPay' scheme is designed to offset the 'environmental burden' of tourism, according to Copenhagen's tourist board.

'When you travel abroad - whether you fly to other countries or drive - you pollute,' says the tourism board's head of communications, Rikke Holm Petersen.

The plan is only a 'small step towards the green transition', admits Petersen.

'At some attractions you may need to show a photo of you riding a bike, or of your public transport ticket,' she says. And then they let you in for free, as a reward.

If the scheme is deemed successful, it will be implemented during the rest of the year.
