They were resting on the train tracks. The tragic fate of three immigrants in France
A train killed three people and seriously injured another in France today. The regional prosecutor said the victims appeared to be Algerian immigrants who had been deported from Spain and had fallen asleep on the tracks.
Only one victim has been identified: a 21-year-old who had recently received an eviction order from Spanish authorities, according to the Bayonne Prosecutor (city in France), Jérôme Bourrier. The other two had documents suggesting they were in the same situation, but authorities are still working to verify their identities, Bourrier told a news conference.
Adding that immigrants walk on rails in the area, given its proximity to the border, what is most surprising is that people were lying down, even resting.
Authorities said the injured man was out of danger for life.
