UK Parliament shuts down its TikTok account: Sharing user data with Communist

The UK Parliament has shut down a TikTok account after concerns that data could be shared with the Chinese Communist Party.

Parliamentary officials created the page on the social video app as a bid to attract a younger audience interested in British politics.

The main concern is that TikTok is owned by Bytedance - a Chinese tech giant.

Three lawmakers claim that companies in China are required to share data with Chinese authorities because of the National Intelligence Act.

TikTok maintains that it is under no obligation to transfer personal data, however a recent investigation from a series of TikTok staff meetings has revealed that China-based employees of Bytedance (TikTok's parent company), may have access to the information of users worldwide.
