Pope Francis: Sex outside of marriage is not the gravest sin
Pope Francis has said that sex outside of marriage is not the gravest sin.
"The sins of the body are not the gravest ," the 84-year-old pope told a news conference aboard the papal plane on Monday.
Pride and hatred are 'the worst', the Pope added.
Francesco made the comment in response to a question about the Archbishop of Paris Michel Aupeti, who resigned last week after allegations he had had an affair with a woman.
Although Aupet, 70, denied having sex, he resigned to prevent rumors that harmed the Church.
"When rumors grow, they take away a person's reputation, that person will not be able to govern… and that is an injustice," Francesco said.
"This is why I accepted Aupet's resignation, not on the altar of truth, but on the altar of hypocrisy. I wonder, what did Aupet do that was so serious that he had to resign? "If we do not know the accusation, we can not condemn it," the pope added, urging journalists to investigate.
