Pope Francis: The door to retirement is open, but not for now

Pope Francis has spoken for the first time after rumors that he may resign from the Vatican. For some time in his outings, the Pope uses a wheelchair, due to a knee problem. However, as he says, it is not about any serious illness.

"It is not a catastrophe to change the Pope, it is not a taboo. The door to retirement is open – it's a normal option. But to this day I have not knocked on that door. I haven't felt the need to think about this possibility - that doesn't mean that in two days I might not start thinking about it," the Pope told reporters.

"This trip to Canada has been intense. I don't think I can continue to travel at the same pace at my age and with the limitation of this knee. Either I should calm down a bit to continue serving the Church, or I should consider leaving," he added.
