Microsoft hires Sam Altman after being fired by OpenAI

Microsoft announced Monday that it has hired Sam Altman, after he was fired from his position as CEO of OpenAI.
Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella wrote in X that Microsoft was "extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman will join the Company to lead a new AI research team."
Altman said "the mission continues," in response to Nadella at X.
OpenAI fired Sam Altman, 38, on Friday, saying it had lost confidence in him, but did not specify what he was allegedly dishonest about.
Meanwhile, the Albanian Mira Murati was temporarily appointed in his place.
According to the company's announcement, Murati has played a critical role in the evolution of OpenAI into a global AI leader.
"Given her long tenure and close engagement with all aspects of the company, including her experience in AI governance and policy, the board believes she is uniquely qualified for this role and anticipates a smooth transition uninterrupted while it conducts a formal search for a permanent CEO," the company said.
