London mayor rejects proposal to build Las Vegas strip in Stratford
Plans for a Las Vegas-style Sphere entertainment venue on the edge of the Olympic park in east London have been rejected by the mayor.
Sadiq Khan decided on Monday to reject the giant sphere proposed by the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Company (MSG) for three main reasons, including light pollution.
The outside of the Sphere would display advertisements, which locals say would keep them from sleeping. The company said it was disappointed by London's decision.
The final decision will go to Communities Secretary Michael Gove.
Khan rejected the project, citing the amount of light pollution it would cause for Stratford residents, its high electricity bill and the lack of green space it would have.
