North Korea bans wearing leather coats, can only be worn by Kim Jong

Kim Jong-un has reportedly banned citizens in North Korea from wearing leather coats on the grounds that they are copying his look.

Kim's leather coat has become an icon in his secluded country, where there is a personality cult surrounding the despot and his fashion choices.

Originally it was the elite of the communist state that could imitate their leader because only they could afford to buy genuine leather coats.

North Korean clothing manufacturers then began importing fake leather to make home-made versions.

Soon, almost every North Korean market was selling coats - and very soon many young people were buying them.

Radio Free Asia reports that current police patrol the streets to seize jackets from vendors and any citizen who has his appearance.

A source said: " Young people are protesting, saying that they bought the coats with their own money and there is no reason to take them off.

"Police respond to complaints, saying that wearing clothes designed to look like the highest dignity is an 'impure tendency to challenge the authority of the highest dignity'.

"They instructed the public not to wear leather coats because it is part of the party directive to decide who can wear them."
