The American singer is sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexual abuse
American singer R Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually abusing women, girls and boys, more than 20 years after facing charges for the first time.
Last September, a jury in New York City found the 55-year-old guilty of sex trafficking and blackmail on all nine charges against him.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly handed down the sentence in federal court in Brooklyn after hearing survivors testify about how Kelly exploitation ruined their lives.
At trial, the victims describe how Kelly, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, was subjected to perverted and sadistic whims when they were minors.
The singer's lawyers say he will appeal.
