Johnson: Germany and France wanted the war to end with the loss of Ukraine

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has recently claimed in an interview that European countries had very different views on the war in Ukraine, with Germany preferring a quick loss of Ukraine.

Boris Johnson told CNN Portugal: This was a big shock... we could see the Russian battalion tactical groups coming together, but different countries had very different perspectives. The German view was at one stage that if the war was going to happen, which would be a disaster, then it would be better to end it quickly and for Ukraine to lose.

Johnson said he had every reason to support that approach, but he didn't.

He also made comments about French President Emmanuel Macron, who had led Europe's effort to contain Vladimir Putin through diplomatic talks.

"Make no doubt that the French were in denial until the last moment," Johnson said.
