The story of the woman who stayed a year infected with Covid

An American woman who had survived cancer was found to have been infected with the coronavirus for at least 335 days, which is the longest documented case to date, a study said.

The patient, a 47-year-old woman, whose identity has not yet been made public, was hospitalized with COVID-19 on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesd in the spring of 2020.

After ten months, during which she showed mild symptoms of Covid, doctors discovered that she was still positive for the coronavirus.

The woman had had weak immunity after a successful treatment for blood cancer three years ago.

She continued to test positive for the coronavirus and doctors thought the tests were positive as they caught harmless parts of the virus remaining after the infection was gone.

When the woman's viral load increased again this March, doctors determined her diagnosis. They found that she carried Covid for ten months and was different from any type of coronavirus circulating in the population.

The woman received treatment and finally cleared the infection in April, 335 days after she was first tested. It has been tested even now, but the tests have turned out negative.
