Slap President Macron / 28-year-old sentenced to 4 months in prison
Damien Tarel, 28, was sentenced to 4 months in prison for slapping French President Emmanuel Macron two days ago.
The young man who is a member of right-wing extremist groups and passionate about medieval history was asked to be sentenced to 18 months by the prosecution, but the court has found it reasonable that a sentence of 4 months is sufficient.
Tarel told the court that the slap in the face to Macron was to symbolize everything that was "rotten" in France and to show the revolt of the people against him.
"I think Macron represents the degradation of our country. "If I were to challenge Macron in a duel at sunrise, I do not think he would accept," the young man told the court, explaining the motivation for the act that made the rounds of the world.
Macron himself took the event with sportiness and said that this was an isolated incident that should not be inflated beyond proportions.
Tarel can consider himself lucky for the low sentence, as according to French legislation he could go up to three years in prison and pay a fine of 45 thousand euros.
