Grandparents in Sweden will be paid to look after their grandchildren

Swedish grandparents are now entitled to claim payment for looking after their grandchildren.

The Nordic country is allowing parents to transfer the right to paid parental leave to their parents (grandparents).

Sweden's new law, which came into force on Monday, allows parents to transfer up to 90 days of their paid leave to other people in the case of single-parent families and 45 days in the case of a couple of parents.

Swedish citizens pay some of the highest taxes in the world, but are compensated by the state providing them with medical care, free education up to higher education and generous unemployment benefits.
