Germany with new COVID rules from October 1: No national lockdown planned

Germany has adopted new anti-Covid measures for autumn and winter, which will come into force on 1 October and will remain in force until 7 April 2023.

In accordance with the new rules, all persons will be required to wear a mask on long-distance trains. Also, all employees of hospitals and asylums will be required to wear masks.

Visitors will also have to present a negative rapid test, while aircraft personnel will have to be tested three times a week.

On planes, passengers will not be required to wear a mask for domestic and international flights.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach stressed that there were no plans for another general national lockdown or school closures - two of the most unpopular measures since the early days of the pandemic.
