A girl named Ayyan arrived by lifeboat off Kent's Dungeness shore as a man held her in his arms before handing her over to a police officer. She made the perilous journey from France just like her mother who was just as tired as she could barely speak to the authorities. She has indicated that she had considered all the risks, along with the child just to leave her country and live a better life in Britain.

A person who understood her language and translated into English recounted how French police officers had seen the migrants as they were leaving their shores and did not try to stop them.

While record numbers of migrants have crossed the Channel this summer, figures over the past three years show that only a handful are arriving by small boats, or dinghies.
