Hippos are also positive for Covid
Two hippopotamuses at the zoo in Belgium have tested positive for Covid. The virus has been found to affect other animals such as monkeys and cats, but these are the first cases confirmed by this species.
The two female hippopotamuses, Hermian, 41, and Iman, 14, have no symptoms other than nasal secretions. As an unprecedented measure, the zoo has banned visitors from entering their premises.
It is not yet known how hippopotamuses became infected with the coronavirus.
Recall that Belgium tightened measures this week by announcing the closure of primary schools and kindergartens starting December 18th.
