Austria strengthens anti-Covid mast: the unvaccinated will remain in isolation

The fourth national isolation in Austria to control the pandemic will end on Sunday but not for the unvaccinated.

This news was given by Chancellor Karl Nehammer today.

Nehammer said ending the isolation would mean very careful opening, meaning that some measures, such as keeping the mask on public transport, inside shops or public spaces, would remain in place for those vaccinated or those cured by COVID. -19.

Also in the country will come into force curfew from 23 hours for restaurants and the number of people who will be allowed to attend cultural events will be limited.

Stricter measures will be implemented depending on the regions especially those most affected by the pandemic, Nehammer added.

He stressed that unvaccinated citizens will be able to end their isolation as soon as they receive the vaccine, but acknowledged that "there is a lot of work to be done to convince those who have not yet been vaccinated."

"Isolation for the unvaccinated continues. "I also understand that people who are affected by this feel angry," Nehammer told reporters.

Austria has a relatively low vaccination rate in Western Europe with only 67.7% of those vaccinated. Tens of thousands of people have been protesting for several days in Austria against isolation and the obligation to vaccinate.
