Were we on the brink of World War III? Russia: Our relations with the US reached a "dangerous" point
Russian-US relations reached a "dangerous" point and constant US pressure on all fronts forced Moscow to be nervous and consider any possible scenario for reaction, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in a statement given today.
He said that before the proposal of the bilateral summit between Biden and Putin by the American president, the mutual departure of diplomats, disagreements at the ideological and geo-political level together with the US insistence to increase sanctions until the objectives of her, made "everything be on the table."
"Washington has provoked an unprecedented tension between the two countries in recent years, and bilateral relations have reached a point that could create incidents," Lavrov said.
At the June 16 summit in Geneva between Biden and Putin, although no historic agreement was reached, or even a joint statement, it was agreed in principle that the two leaders would no longer expel the other country's diplomats, and nor will they increase sanctions in the foreseeable future in order to show a goodwill for the normalization of relations between the two superpowers.
