The European Parliament welcomes Kosovo's application for EU membership

The European Parliament has approved on Wednesday in a plenary session in Strasbourg a resolution on foreign and security policy, where it is requested that the EU accelerate the enlargement process, both with candidate countries and with potential candidates.
It is also requested that the visas for the citizens of Kosovo be removed as soon as possible.
At the last moment, the part in which Kosovo's application for membership in the European Union is welcomed is included in the resolution.
Its focus is the threat posed by Russia's aggression against Ukraine, while a part of the resolution is also devoted to Russia's influence in the Western Balkans region.
In particular, the text calls on Serbia, which is a candidate country for EU membership, to respect European values and adapt its foreign policy to that of the European Union.
The report also criticizes Serbia's efforts to destabilize the region, while supporting the achievement of an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia within the framework of dialogue, through mutual recognition. It says that Kosovo's independence is irreversible and the 5 EU countries are required to recognize the independence.
The resolution was approved with 407 votes in favor, 92 against and 142 abstentions.
