Josep Borrell has sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, asking for an extension of the situation in the north.

The letter is a response to the five-point plan that Kurt sent him a few days ago.

"As you know, I am ready to call a high-level meeting with you and President Vučić, with the precondition that you are willing to first take the steps for extension and pave the way for new elections. We cannot make progress in normalizing relations as long as we deal with crisis management. All 27 EU countries, but also the USA, have invested a lot in the normalization process and we want to see this process move forward. Therefore, escalation of the situation is required to happen immediately. If you are willing to take the necessary steps, a new meeting can be arranged quickly," said Borrell in the letter he sent to Kurt.

At the end of the statement, Borrell writes that failure to reduce tensions will have negative consequences and that the 27 EU member states have been informed of the necessary measures. He has warned that these measures will be communicated publicly.
