Book Fair 2021 / Veliaj gives the award for the best author to the writer

"The Municipality of Tirana will continue to promote the knowledge industry, next year a special edition for young artists"

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has given the award as the best Albanian author of 2021 to the writer Virgjil Muçi with the volume of stories "My tongue is to blame". Present at the award ceremony at the Book Fair "Tirana 2021", Mayor Veliaj expressed his gratitude to all those who have contributed to the rise to the deserved pedestal of books and literature.

"Thank you very much to all those who have invested in one of the most challenging industries, the book industry, the translation industry, the knowledge industry, the smart things and the beautiful things. In a context like ours it is really one of the biggest challenges. Beyond this moment, which is the most culminating moment since we are in the middle of the fair and all the attention is on them, what I would appreciate is that for all those who are dedicated to this cause I would like to have it every day of the year with the same zeal and passion, "said Veliaj.

The Mayor said that this is the second time that the Municipality of Tirana is a general sponsor of the Book Fair, while emphasizing that next year, the year when Tirana will be the European Capital of Youth will have a special edition dedicated to young Albanian writers. "It is true that we are the general sponsors of the Fair for the second time. It is no secret, Petrit and I had a long debate in my first years in the Municipality, because in my opinion the literary world should not be mimicry, or imitation of the political world and I am glad that for 2 years we have there was a unification of this community, as befits it. I am very proud of that. We will continue next year, of course even with a bigger budget. Every year we grow,

Sot i kemi mundësitë.

The head of the Publishers Association, Petrit Ymeri praised the continuous support that the Municipality of Tirana has given to culture and books in particular. "I want to thank the Mayor for the kind words for the promises and the invitation for cooperation which we embrace. Last year was very difficult and we did a digital fair, a beautiful thing last year amid that pessimism from those who believed. It was the Municipality of Tirana that believed in us and we held a special fair as Frankfurt and Geneva did, important cities of the book ", said Ymeri.

Meanwhile, Flavia Kaba was announced for the best translation award for this triumphant year, with the translation of the volume of stories "The City of Steam" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, an important author of Spanish literature who passed away only 2 years ago.
