The Municipality of Tirana has been elected to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP), an organization that brings together governments and civil society leaders to create a more transparent, inclusive and participatory government. As a new OGP member, the Municipality of Tirana will work with local civil society organizations and other OGP members to advance the open government agenda and transform the way the government serves its citizens. her.

The Mayor Mr. Erion Veliaj welcomed the unification of the Municipality of Tirana in this Partnership and hopes to learn from the members of the OGP at a national and local level to advance the open government movement. "Our aspiration is to increase the level of transparency and citizen involvement and we are deeply committed and open to new ideas and good practices, which I am sure we will find through cooperation with the Open Government Partnership." said Veliaj.

Marilo Meta from the Association for the Development of Leadership in the Balkans noted the importance of cooperation between civil society and the government to create reforms that respond to the needs of citizens in the Municipality of Tirana and that OGP provides the right platform to achieve this.

Civil society organizations and governing reformers have supported the government's open approaches to the Municipality of Tirana. The Municipality of Tirana has continuously cooperated with civil society organizations on issues such as youth participation and employment, provision of social services, environmental protection, etc. As a new OGP member, the Municipality of Tirana hopes to increase these efforts in partnership with stakeholders and to include lessons learned from other OGP members.
