Are you gay or lesbian? Scottish schools experiment that has sparked public backlash
More than 200 secondary schools, more than half of the national total, and more than 40 primary schools in Scotland have signed up to the education charter supported by the charity LGBT Youth Scotland, which aims to teach children about inclusion.
Schools can also set up LGBT clubs and 'gender and sexual orientation alliance groups', asking children about their sexual orientation, whether they are gay, lesbian or trans.
"We are committed to doing everything we can to make Scotland the best place for LGBTQI+ young people to grow up," a Scottish Government spokesperson told the press.
This association has won several battles, one of them being the creation of Transgender Day.
Among the ten annual events that participating schools in Scotland are invited to celebrate is National Coming Out Day and Transgender Day of Visibility. The association said it has trained more than 5,000 teachers since 2021.
Scotland also recently passed the Hate Crime Act, which could provide jail terms for those who say they are bisexual.
Although Scotland's political agenda aims for inclusiveness in Scotland, the LGBT youth agenda has raised concerns among experts.
Psychologist Carolyn Broën explained to the Telegraph that children of primary school age "are very impressionable and are still at a very early stage of their psychological and emotional development... Children cannot know if they are LGBT, because biologically , psychologically and emotionally they still don't have the capacity".
