Tirana is chosen as the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue, but what does this mean?
Tirana was announced yesterday as the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2025. The year 2024 will be the year of preparations to then be ready to enter 2025.
43 countries have voted unanimously for Tirana to take the title. 4,000 organizations also participated in the vote.
What does this title mean? Mayor Veliaj explains it like this:
"Tirana must serve as a bridge to the Mediterranean, the mission we have been assigned is not only to be a great year of song and dance in Tirana, but this year will be an opportunity to turn Tirana into a mahogany, into an agora , in a market, a Mediterranean scene to connect people", said Veliaj.
Veliaj added that the time has come to bring back the Tirana Biennale.
"The Culture Community today may have approved over 100 projects in culture and sports. We want to continue in this spirit. This city deserves this title, here we are raising our families, here we are living our lives, here we have seen a lot changes, here not everything is perfect, but we have had the opportunity to change small realities. The formula of our city's success is only when we support each other, only when we say to each other well done, move forward, we are with you, we will cheer for every Opera, for every play, for every film, for every theater, for every exhibition, for every digital art and for every possible concert, to give this city life, to produce economy and of course, to increase the image of our country and our people. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart", said Veliaj.
