Road experts: Prohibition of heavy vehicles has reduced traffic in Tirana by 40%

The decision of the Municipality of Tirana to stop the circulation of heavy tonnage vehicles during the day, has reduced traffic by 40%. In an interview for Euronews Albania, the urban traffic management specialist in the Traffic Police, Gerhard Baka stated that from 7 to 9 in the morning, vehicles for transporting goods were stopped, in order to avoid traffic in the capital.

"There is also an improvement in environmental pollution, as heavy tonnage vehicles emit more carbon dioxide than cars," said Mr. Baka.

Whereas, the Chief of the Traffic Sector in the Municipal Police, Gentian Vocaj stated that the traffic situation in Tirana is now easier compared to December or November.

"These authorizations have been given to construction companies, which have permits to build in the city of Tirana and to all concrete mixers or trucks operating in these constructions," he said.
