15 citizens have sworn for Albanian citizenship before the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj. In the ceremony held in the Municipality of Tirana, Veliaj said that this is an ideal moment to join the city, which today is in its best days and counts about 1 million tourists per month.
"All of a sudden, from a small 'katund' or town with 10,000 inhabitants, today we are over 1 million. So, in 104 years as the capital, we have grown 104 times. Today, it is enough to go out the door of the town hall and see how many tourists there are, about 1 million per month. Imagine what change and what transformation the city has undergone every year, growing and becoming more cosmopolitan, more representative of all realities and of all different streams and nationalities. Today, 144 nationalities have residence in Tirana. From a Tirana of 91, where we were the only ones, to a Tirana that today has 25,000 Italians and many, many other nationalities who call it their home as well," said Veliaj.
He called on the citizens who took the oath to contribute to Tirana, which enjoys various titles thanks to everyone's work. Veliaj said that one shovel is enough to plant a tree, as a modest way to contribute to the great energy of Tirana.
"Today Tirana is the presidency of B40, which is the network of Balkan municipalities, two years ago it was the European Capital of Youth, years ago it was the European Capital of Sport, next year it will be the European Capital of Culture. If you have contributions to make for each of these titles, you are most welcome. The European Environment Agency named Tirana the 10th city among all European cities, as the city that has planted more trees recently. Even if you don't have any special talent, like my work, a shovel is enough to plant a tree, when you have an anniversary or when you have children's birthdays, a modest way of saying I also made a contribution to this great energy of Tirana", declared the mayor.
