The SP has proposed another change in the Republic Guard law, removing the right to protection from the Guard of former high state officials, when the latter end their term of office.
The proposal of the legal amendment was made by the head of the Security Commission, Nasip Naço, and provides for a special article that removes the right of protection for personalities when the latter leave office. The right to have protection from the Guard will be recognized only to the President, the Speaker of the Assembly and the Prime Minister. As for other officials, if the latter finish their mandate, they will be given protection by the guard, either physical or residential, only in cases where their lives are in danger.
According to the report of the draft law, it is emphasized that this initiative aims to reduce the financial costs of the Guard of the Republic. "In point 4 of Article 13 and point 3 of Article 14 of Law 33/2021, "On the Guard of the Republic of Albania", the quote "The duration of the protection of other personalities after they leave office is determined by decision of the Council of Ministers", is not complete and creates room for interpretations that artificially increase the number of personalities who are entitled to protection after leaving office.

The Guard of the Republic of Albania guards and protects the apartments where they live or are accommodated and the facilities where the following personalities exercise their activity:
Apartments of the Deputy Prime Minister; the minister responsible for law and order issues;
the director of the State Information Service; the Prosecutor General; the ambassador of the European Union in Albania.
The facilities where they operate: the Independent Qualification Commission, the Special Appeals Board, the Public Commissioners and the international observers appointed by the International Monitoring Operation; General Prosecutor's Office.
The facilities where state dignitaries carry out their activities and are accommodated, specifically:
In Tirana: villa no. 4, villa no. 30, villa no. 31, Palace of Brigades;
In Dajt: villa no. 1, villa no. 2;
In Durrës: villa no. 6, villa no. 13, villa no. 20, villa no. 23, villa no. 29;
In Vlora: villa no. 1, villa no. 2, villa no. 6, villa no. 9; Dhërmi villa;
In Pogradec: villa no. 2, villa no. 3, villa no. 4, villa no. 5;
