Survivors of the atomic bombings in Japan win the Nobel Peace Prize
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday to a group of Japanese survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for their activism against nuclear weapons.
The Chair of the Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen, praised the group's extraordinary efforts, noting that their campaign has played an important role in establishing a taboo on nuclear weapons, contributing greatly to the global movements against the use of nuclear weapons. .
"The roots of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors' movement, also known as Hibakusha, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to make a world without nuclear weapons, and for showing us as witnesses that nuclear weapons should not never to be used again", said the Committee, as it announced the winner.
Last year, the Iranian women's rights activist, Narges Mohammadi, was honored with this award.
