Spain, Ireland and Norway recognize Palestine as an independent state
Spain, Ireland and Norway have announced this Wednesday that from May 28 they will recognize Palestine as an independent state. This decision, which was announced at various media conferences by the prime ministers of these countries, has prompted fierce opposition from Israel and jubilation from the Palestinians.
International Reactions
The Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris, called this a historic decision and emphasized that the recognition of Palestine is a step towards peace in the Middle East. The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, declared that his country will officially recognize Palestine from May 28, stressing that this recognition supports the Arab peace plan. The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, also announced the recognition of Palestine as an independent state on the same date.
Opposition from Israel
Israel immediately reacted by withdrawing its ambassadors from Norway and Ireland. Israel's foreign minister, Israel Katz, criticized the decision, saying it rewards terrorism and could hinder efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
The decision of these three countries to recognize Palestine as an independent state marks an important development in international politics, reflecting changes in the approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
