Announced "Historical Photography" for 2021. The photographed object

Steve Liddiard has been named the 2021 Historic Photographer of the Year Award for his Whiteford Point Lighthouse lighthouse photography on Gower Peninsula, Wales.

While the Historic England category was won by the sight of Sam Binding for the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol during a foggy dawn.

"The lighthouse was built in 1865 according to a project by John Bowen, of Llanelli, to mark the shores of Whiteford Point, replacing a previously assembled structure from 1854, of which nothing remains. It is the only cast-iron tower abducted by waves of this magnitude in Britain ", explains Mr. Liddiard.

Entries in the competition were evaluated for originality, composition and technical skills alongside the history behind its submission and historical impact.

The awards demonstrate the great dedication of the participants when they try to capture that perfect view, whether it is getting up at the end of the night to catch the perfect sunrise or climbing, walking and hiking on their way to discover places far away from the our past, ”said historian Dan Snow, who was the race judge.
