US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Pete Hegseth, a broadcaster, author and military veteran, as his choice for Secretary of Defense.
According to foreign media, Hegseth, 44, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, will be in charge of the world's most powerful military in his first political role.
Trump described him as "tough, smart and a true believer in 'America First.'
If his nomination is confirmed by the US Senate, Hegseth will arrive at the Pentagon making decisions on issues such as military aid to Israel and support for Ukraine in the face of Russian invasion.
