Japan imposes more sanctions on Russia, including Putin and Lavrov's family

Japan has imposed additional sanctions on Russia today, freezing the assets of 398 Russian citizens, including President Vladimir Putin's two grown daughters, Katerina Tikhonova and Mariya Vorontsova, according to a press release from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

The new measures also penalize members of the family of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, namely his wife Mariya Lavrova and daughter Yekaterina Vinokurova, according to the announcement.

Japan has steadily expanded its sanctions against Russia since the beginning of its occupation of Ukraine, including banning Russian imports of coal and vodka, reducing new investment in Russia, and freezing assets of major banks.

Other countries, including the United States and Britain, have also imposed sanctions on Putin and Lavrov's families.
