Swiss glaciers have lost 10 percent of their volume in the past two years, the same amount of ice lost between 1960 and 1990.
The melting of glaciers has come as a result of extreme weather conditions worsened by climate change, according to a new report.
Little snow in winter and very high temperatures in summer took away 10 percent of the glacier's volume during 2022 and 2023, the team of researchers at the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences found.
After losing six percent of its volume in 2022, which saw the biggest melt to date, this year the ice volume has decreased by another four percent.
