Vera Zheji, the symbolic voice of Radio Tirana, has passed away
Vera Zheji Zëri, symbol of Radio Tirana, passed away today at the age of 91. The bitter news was announced by her family members.
"This morning, my mother Vera Zheji, left this world. She spent a few difficult weeks, she left her home and her family quietly at dawn today. On her behalf, I thank all the many friends and well-wishers who have followed, supported and respected through the years, which she remembered with love and gratitude. May God help us all to end our remaining time in this world well", writes her daughter on Facebook.
Zheji is the daughter of the cultural dynasty, the sister of the great linguist and philosopher Petro Zheji.
She was born on January 30, 1933 in Tirana. When she was only 15 years old, in 1948, Vera Zheji became a popular voice when she started reading literary shows in front of the microphone of Radio Tirana. She created various popular radio shows, such as World of Fairy Tales, Popular Radio University, Radio Encyclopedia and several others, which were identified with her unique way of reading and speaking.
Everyone can remember her magical voice reading the 7pm fairy tales in the 70s. She also read the news in Italian, a language she mastered very well. Vera Zheji also showed her talent in acting, when she participated in the comedy "Rain on the Beach" and other theater pieces.
In 1975, Vera Zheji finally left Radio and was appointed lecturer of Artistic Speech in the theater branch, at the Higher Institute of Arts, until 1988 when she retired.
