Meteora, the mysterious destination set up by the fields of Thessaly in Greece
Raised from the plain of Thessaly in Greece, Meteora is a group of vertical rocks, reaching up to 300 meters in height, which time has turned into strange and beautiful formations.
Located on top of these rocks are the monasteries of Meteora, which are some of the most magical attractions in all of Greece. Built from 1356 onwards, there were once 24 monasteries, but that number has dwindled over the centuries, and today there are only six monasteries still occupied.
One of the best ways to explore these holy sites, which have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is on foot.
Just remember, while this experience can be one of the main things to do for tourists, for monks, these structures are places of peace, prayer and meditation, and respect is paramount.
